A Year on the Farm Alma, Georgia
The blueberry farm is a year round working farm. In the winter months (December to February) the bushes are dormant, but that does not mean the work stops. The bushes are pruneed and dead bushes replanted. In the spring (March to May) chemical is sprayed for pests and weeds (chemicals are used according to government regulations). Honeybees and bumble bees are placed around the farm for pollination and fertilization. April brings the time to check all equipment for harvesting the berries. The summer (June to August) is consumed with picking blueberries, having them packed. The fall (September to November) is time to hedge the bushes, clean up the farm of any trash, debris, and get the harvester ready for the winter. An start all over again.
