A Year on the Farm
The blueberry farm is a year round working farm. In the winter months (December to February) t
he bushes are dormant, but that does not mean the work stops. We prune the bushes and replant some bushes. We are now making plans and any contacts for the upcoming selling season, including contacting new groups for fundraising and updating our web site. In the spring (March to May) we spray chemicals for pests and weeds (all chemical information can be seen on our chemical page). We also place both honeybees and bumble bees around our farm for pollination. April brings the time to check all equipment for harvesting the berries. The summer (June to August) is consumed with picking blueberries,
having them packed, and taken to Atlanta in refrigeration units. The fall (September to November) is our time to hedge the bushes, clean up the farm of any trash, debris, and get the harvester ready for the winter.
