The Blueberry Business
The blueberry business has kept us very busy year round for the last three years. The blueberries are grown on our farm in South Georgia. The berries are picked between the end of April to the middle of July (depending on the type of berries).
Our farm has Climax, Brightwell, Tiftblue, and Premier Berries. The berries are picked by a harvester, which is driven over the bushes - the “arms” shake the bushes and the berries fall on conveyor belts. The conveyor belts take the berries to lugs. The berries are put in a refrigeration unit and transported to the pack house where they are placed on a conveyor belt and all the leaves, branches and other “trash” is blown off the belt and the berries are then placed into 2lb clam shells, which will be driven to Atlanta and sold.
